National Poetry Month April 2017
Inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month is now held every April, when schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets throughout the United States band together to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture. Thousands of organizations participate through readings, festivals, book displays, workshops, and other events.
At Pleasant Hill this year, we will recognize National Poetry Month by reading and studying the different genres of poetry. On "Put a Poem in Your Pocket Day" (April 18) you will find baskets full of poems in English and Spanish around school--you simply select a poem you love, carry it with you, then share it with co-workers, family, and friends.
